Welcome
Monica Ly gained exposure to journalism early on. She started keeping a journal at the age of six, became a guest reporter for her elementary newsletter, and joined the high school newspaper as the copy editor. As she grew older, she found a passion for political affairs and business and saw how words can motivate people to action.
Her first taste of professional journalism was an interview with local singer and songwriter Wendy Woo for AsiaXpress. Monica covered events such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, Chinese New Year celebrations, and the Miss Asian American Colorado Pageant for the website. She also wrote in-depth feature stories, including breaking stereotypes of Asian culture and interracial dating.
Monica graduated with degrees in both Political Science and Journalism. Keeping abreast of the changing media landscape, Monica also earned a Certificate in Digital Media. Her experience in communication spans over website, email, video, print, and social sites.
She is currently the E-media Specialist for the City of Greeley in Greeley, Colo. With a council priority to encourage economic development, her communication focuses on making the city an attractive place for new businesses and families. She connects and engages with community members through the city website, e-newsletter, and social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
